APPLICATIONS:

  • Wet or exudative form of age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
  • Diabetic eye diseases (diabetic retinopathy (DR) and diabetic macular edema (DME))
  • Retinopathy of prematury (ROP)
  • Ischemic retinopathies
  • Corneal angiogenesis (inflammatory disordersstromal ulcerationcorneal graftinfectious keratitis, chemical burns)
  • ​Retinal vessel integrity test
  • Proof of concept for angiogenesis and/or lymphangiogenesis

 

PRECLINICAL EFFICACY MODELS:

  • Choroidal neovascularization: experimental argon laser-induced choroidal neovascularization (CNV model)
  • Retinal neovascularization: animal model of oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR)
  • Retinal vascular permeability: VEGF-induced retinal vascular permeability model/VEGF-induced vessel leakage
  • Corneal neovascularization: sutures or alkali burn

 

EXAMPLE OF EVALUATIONS:

  • Length of new vessels and network density (slit lamp examination)
  • Lesion volume (optical coherence tomography (OCT), histology analysis)
  • Blood-retinal vascular permeability (fluorophotometer)
  • Vascular leakage (fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA))
  • Retinal vessel tortuosity (fundus biomicroscopy with a slit lamp)
  • Marker levels (eg. ELISA, RT-PCR)
