Iris Pharma is a French Contract Research Organization (CRO) dedicated to preclinical research -also named non-clinical research- in ophthalmology.
Founded in 1989 by Pierre-Paul Elena, Ph.D., Iris Pharma provides drug development services to Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries, and Research Institutes. It todays groups three areas of complementary activities using a state-of-the-art apparatus such as Heidelberg Retina Tonograph 2 (HRT2) and digital slit lamp: - Preclinical studies in ophthalmology: a unit managing the complete animal development of drugs and devices. - Basic research in ophthalmology: customized studies for new drugs, devices, and methods development. - Analytical testing laboratory: a technical environment dedicated to the analysis and test of the products (HPLC-MS, RRLC-MS/MS ). Innovation Thanks to its unique and extensive experience in ophthalmology, Iris Pharma supplies the necessary understanding and competences to guide your new pharmaceutical drugs through the drug development process. Based on Dr Pierre-Paul Elena's 27 year expertise in ophthalmology and on more than 35 highly experienced staff, Iris Pharma performs professional quality studies in preclinical ophthalmology research. Our focus on the eye creates value for our customers because it enables us to work quickly and accurately and to help our clients to market their drugs faster. We not only perform highly controlled studies to obtain regulatory authorization (registration studies), but also propose pilot studies (proof of concept) that correspond to simplified prospective studies. These simplified studies offer the advantage of investigating the efficacy or penetration of a product following a very simplified study design, using a lower number of animals, and thus reducing the amount of control and reference substance required. We have trained staff for micro-dissection of ocular samples, surgical administration of ophthalmic drugs and devices (including intravitreal, subconjunctival, sub-Tenon, retrobulbar, periocular, intracamerular, sub-retinal, intrascleral, and intrastromal administration) and also for surgical implantation (e.g. intravitreal, subconjunctival). Our department of applied research can develop new animal models according to the specific requirements of our clients and also improves existing models. Today, we have experience in studying the efficacy of products in many ocular pathologies like age-related macular degeneration (AMD), ocular allergy .
